Dependency

Explaining
my love for you
is like describing
how a vowel glides
to a diphthong
there’s no explanation
it just does

Diagramming
our love as a tree
would be trying
at the start
by extraneous phrases
antiquated pedagogy
unredeemed

Trailing
like ellipsis
clauses lain doggo
for a preposition
at last deemed
perfectly punctuated
by you

For Michael/Grapeling’s word-list prompt to the Real Toads: ABSENT

  1. Ah... this is perfect. The secret behind the syntax is inexplicable indeed.

  3. Oh your brain is young and agile. Mine crept about the syntax like Uriah Heep, wringing its hands and breathing out one long admiring "whoaaaaaaaa!"

  6. Good Job, Marian ~~ The more one, at least me, reads the more is to be found here. I'm liking the "extraneous phrases (and) antiquated pedagogy." The latter reminds me of when I first started teaching while the first reminded me of back when I worked at NASA. One of my tasks was to write a portion of the Mission Report for most any particular just completed space flight. When the task seemed too great, one other writer said to 'just write a lot' and 'flood the bosses with paperwork.'
    Getting even.
