  3. Why indeed? Perhaps, like me, you once lived in Berkeley, California, where we all stood in the pastel cottages under flaming skies as we faced the bay and said we will always wear black? As far as I can tell, we had no other reason than being theatre artists who shouldn't pick up light backstage.
