earth to Earth

Bust wide
sealed-shut windows!
Breathe in the off-gas of
corpusculent earth, teeming with
crawlers!

A little cinquain for Words Count With Mama Zen, inspired by the scientific illustrations of Maria Sibylla Merian. (Also poem nine of 30 in April, National Poetry Month.)

  2. Corpusculent! Now that is the perfect word to describe the swollen abdomen and fruit! Those teeming crawlers are welcome to their own environment on the other side of my windows!

  8. Hell, yeah, let 'em in. As long as they aren't really big, hairy spiders... or bats (I know, they eat the mosquitos, but still...) or orange "fake" ladybugs! Or wasps, or...

Know what? I take it all back. Double-screening this year, hee hee hee. But I do love daddy long-legs and the proper red ladybugs, which, when found in the home, are a sign of good luck.

Beautiful cinquain, and special kudos for spelling the word "teeming" correctly! Good on you. Amy

I can't imagine in this freezing spring of ours that we'll ever experience this again, but I.know we will and I'll be complaining about the little critters

  11. Much as I love the fresh air, I once made the mistake of opening my window to a newly hatched nest of spiders. Yuck. Spider babies crawling all over!
