    My land is filled with spade foot and Colorado River toads. They dig deep when the temps turn cold and emerge with monsoon's first rain. I have found many, mummified, as I've gardened over the years. I always wonder what caused their demise.

    Kim, I think if it gets so cold that the pond actually freezes solid instead of freezing over, they can't survive that.
