decomposition

Oh for chartreuse, yellow and pine--
Embrace your heart’s rebirth!
Exalt! Delight in flight!
For soon enough, decay befalls--
Russet and pine shapes your ache,
Barren as your limbs, reaching skyward.

Kerry's weekend challenge to the Real Toads is to try sijo, a Korean ballad poem. I've set mine in six lines instead of the traditional three because I could not fit the longer lines across my page.

As I was working on this poem this morning, I learned the very sad news that a dear poet friend, Carl Russo, co-founder (with Tommy Twilite) of the Florence Poets Society, has passed away. With a very heavy heart, I dedicate this poem to Carl. Carl, may you embrace the flight and rejoice in the colors of our Valley always. Much love to you, my friend. Yours, Marian
