changed velocity

Her body sleek like a capsule, aptly called Eve,
she transports me, silently, across the river.

Sometimes I must resist the urge to accelerate
and then pull up fiercely on the parking brake.

Eve and me careening, ass over storied tin cup:
in my commuter's eye, that's how it would end.

Fireblossom challenged the Real Toads to write about bodies.

  2. Sounds like a runaway train...

I like the envisioned end - kind of Marian and Eve meets Thelma and Louise.

  3. that's exactly what it is! i've been wanting to write about this for a while.
it's a horrible yet seductive image, my hand on the ER brake, watching myself fly off the road. yikes!

  6. I would like to auditon for the Brad Pitt character....lol!!! I might not look as good, but I can be pretty fun! Great visual, and I know about that strange sensation, that thrill, that weird dance with death...crazy good!

  7. Man--I can relate--I've had that very same feeling driving fast..."what if" and your mind fills in the blanks like a slo-mo of the Bolshoi Ballet. Great capture here--the word 'capsule' works perfectly, like a little bullet of meaning.

Freaking brilliant line, love. And I, by the way, see you and Eve flying through the stars. Capsule, indeed.

  16. ...storied tin cup... I am clueless to what this means... is it a reference to a movie, a place.. I googled it and came up with a golf movie... I'd love to know... !! :) Sorry I'm such a dimwit.

    1. :) nothing so highbrow, i just grew up hearing the phrase "ass over tin cup," which meant tumbling, falling hard, like head over heels, a serious tumble. like the proverbial ass over tin cup, is all i really meant, tumbling, flying through space, here.
i never watched that movie! is that an arnold movie? with danny devito, maybe? not relevant to this here poem :)
