recidivism

You can't overlook
the cyclical nature
of this thing,
the ebbs and surges
to which we have
grown accustomed.

If now we are high,
low's in the wings,
the invitation
of the modern world
unavoidable, like
a second act aria.

Delirium's a drug
we would sacrifice
quite a lot to keep,
but always, we wait
for the storied
other shoe to drop.

Magic is often
magnified, and I am
prone to hyperbole
in any event.
What are the chances
that this will stick?

Each line is so finely-balanced, each word carefully selected. Just brilliant work, Marian.

  5. Fantastic, kiddo. One feels the "low's in the wings" and waiting for "the other shoe to drop".

  6. Excellent job, really love the write, especially the notion of the second act aria, but not only the idea itself but how you have it in your second stanza is really neat, and the notion of the delirium as drug and how you followed that up. Exceptional work. Thanks

    low's in the wings,

And all the worlds a stage, and men and women merely players, eh? LOL
