right jolly

dear children, i'd love you to know
how santa comes by all that dough
to bring you treats, but i'm not so
needy as to ruin
your kind, benevolent fellow.
you'll figure it out soon.

when that day comes i'll be bereft
of bright wonder, then we'll be left
with one another and a mess
of adult apathy.
so children, i'll still line your nest
with rosy fantasies.

  1. And why not? Time enough for adult apathy once they're grown.
    Happy holidays to all :)

  3. Perfect reversal--tight and neat. In the neat-o kind of way. I hope I'll never find out Santa is a hedge fund manager--otoh, if that were the case it might give the 1% some redeeming value.

  10. I'm never entirely sure that it's right to lie to children but I just go along with it.
