modern love

i could eat your words
gorge myself full
gluttonous
unbuttoning
overflowing

and sick
greenly waiting
for a breach
offended and smacky
regular as rhymes

beyond my real
anyone would say
she's a lover
so romantic
oh a big heart she has

here comes the line
crossed
want is want is oh i want
yours and yours
collecting

overflowing i remember
cravings beget aversions
and tummyaches

thus i nurse the remote love
i have earned
and focus on what's mine.

  2. Do you know the Bloc Party song by this title? I love it, and it evokes some of the same kind of joyous waves of intensity you've got rolling here. I especially love "want is want is oh I want."

  3. jen, i love that you routinely direct me to music i don't know in response to my writing. you know i'm gonna go find that song right now!
of course there is the david bowie song but it has little to do with this, i guess.
this poem and especially its title have been working on me for a while.

  4. DAMN! I have lived this poem. Still am of sorts...collecting, craving, nursing remote, bellyache not withstanding. I love 'smacky'. New words are collectibles, and this one new on my shelf...all bright and boastable.

Came over from Marion's :) She has exceptional taste!

  7. It's really nice that you would write a poem about your love for me. I'm flattered and look forward to that line being crossed. Unless you're talking about murder or something. If that is the case, I'm not into it.

    Seriously good poem though.
